We’re kicking off a new series under the #safety hashtag, where we’ll break down common scam tactics and how to avoid them. Our goal is to help you stay one step ahead of scammers 🛡

Let’s start with a classic trick: You get a message from a friend asking for a quick favor or opportunity — like to vote for them in a contest or enter a giveaway. They even send you a convenient link. You click, and a familiar Telegram login page pops up, asking for your phone number, login code, and two-step verification password. Seems normal, right? 👏

Wrong. The moment you enter your details, they go straight to a scammer. There’s no contest, no giveaway — just a trap designed to steal your Telegram account 🫵

How it works: Scammers create fake login pages that look exactly like the real thing. Once you enter your credentials, they gain full access to your account.

They won’t always act immediately. Some scammers quietly browse your chats, looking for sensitive info — passwords (which you probably store in your Saved Messages), private messages, anything useful. They can use this information to access your social media, email and financial accounts or sell your data to other scammers. Once they’ve found what they need, they’ll log you out and take over, sending your contacts the same message that they originally sent to you. That's exactly how your friend got caught, which helps spread the scam across communities 🐈‍⬛

How to stay safe:

● Never enter your Telegram login details anywhere except the official apps.
● If you’re already logged in to the web app, you shouldn’t be asked to log in again. If a website asks for your credentials, leave immediately.
● Avoid storing passwords in Saved Messages. It’s not a secure place for sensitive information.

🥋 How to buy cryptocurrency in Telegram

Open Wallet, select ‘P2P Market’ on the main screen, and choose ‘Buy’. You'll see a list of offers with prices, available payment methods, and seller details. Use the filters at the top of the screen to narrow your search.

Tap a desired offer and carefully review its terms. If they suit you, enter the amount you want to buy. If not, choose another offer.

Next, select ‘Review Trade Details’ at the bottom of the screen. If everything looks good, confirm the trade and wait for the seller to accept it. Once they do, their payment details will be shared with you so that you can send the funds ⭐️

Important: Only transfer funds to the payment details specified in the trade, and only communicate with sellers inside the P2P Market chat.

After making the payment, tap ‘I made a payment’ and upload your payment receipt when prompted. As soon as the seller confirms it was received, the cryptocurrency will be automatically credited to your Wallet.

🤑 How to Sell Cryptocurrency in Telegram

Open Wallet, go to ‘P2P Market’, and select ‘Sell’. You’ll see a list of offers with prices, available payment methods, and buyer details. Use the filters at the top of the screen to narrow your search.

Select your preferred offer and carefully review its terms. If they work for you, enter the amount you want to sell. If not, pick another offer. Don’t forget to specify your payment method — this is where you’ll receive the funds from the buyer.

Next, tap ‘Review Order Details’ at the bottom of the screen. If everything looks good, confirm the trade and wait for the buyer to complete the payment within the given timeframe 📲

Important: Make sure you received the full amount in your payment app before confirming the trade.

Check your payment receipt and verify that the funds were credited to your account. Once confirmed, tap ‘Confirm Payment’ and the cryptocurrency will be automatically released to the buyer.

😏 Did Support contact you first? Something doesn’t seem right

We’re continuing our #safety series to help you identify scammers and protect yourself.

Let’s say you’re looking to sell some of your TON, so you open the P2P Market and see a great offer — its price is 20% higher than the market average 🤑

You can check the price of nearly any coin on CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko.

The buyer has a low rating and few trades, but you proceed anyway — after all, they’re offering 20% more than the market price!

Each profile on the P2P Market shows the user’s number of transactions and their rating.

The buyer instantly accepts the trade and messages you: “Hey, I’ve sent the money”. You check your banking app, but find nothing. Then, a message pops up saying that an appeal has been opened for your order 🫵

Before you even realize what's going on, you get a message from an account named "Wallet Support" asking you to confirm your recent transaction. They convince you that you need to share some of your account details in order to receive the payment — like your Telegram login code, password, etc.

Remember, Wallet Support will never DM you first.

What happens next?

After some thinking, you decide to share your details (fatal mistake). By doing so, you have given the scammers full access to your Telegram account, which they can use to remotely log you out and prevent you from regaining access 😳

How does this work? Your Telegram account is tied to your phone number. If it’s listed as a payment method, scammers can contact you directly.

How to protect yourself:

● Block anyone who contacts you first and claims to be Wallet Support. We never message first — and are only available via @wallet_supportbot

● Never share your login details with anybody. Neither Telegram Support nor Wallet Support will ever ask for these.

● You can make your account impossible for strangers to find via Telegram Settings → Privacy and Security → Phone Number (set to Nobody) → Who Can Find Me By My Number.
